- He was a son of Ambrose Jeter and Jane Stern VA. He married on 15 Oct 1785 in Amelia County VA to Lucy Gills, a daughter of John Gills Jr.
He named his plantation "High House". It was located on the North side of Route #644 a short distance from its junction with Genito Road at Paineville, in Amelia County, VA. Two rooms and a hall were on the first and second floors, and a full English basement contained 2 rooms. In the 1950s the house was torn down and the bricks were used to build "Beechleigh", a house on Old Gun Road in Bon Air, Virginia.
Rodophil Jeter was Coroner in Amelia County VA in 1812. He was a member of the House of Delegates from 1818-1819 and from 1819-1820 along with William Segar Archer. Jeter also served 1824-1826 along with Richard Booker. Also from 1827-1830 with Richard Booker.
Jeter served again in 1838.
Rodophil Jeter was a Justice of the Peace in the same county from 1810-1821 and from 1824-1842. In 1821 he was Sheriff of Amelia County Va. His Under Sheriffs were John Jeter Jr, William Jeter, Samuel B Jeter, William Leigh and Efford B Seay.
Rodophil Jeters' Will was written 18 April 1843 and he named his son, John Jeter his executor. He directed that his land be sold either as a whole or in seperate tracts, with the proceeds to be equally divided among certain of his children. (Will Book 15, p.188)
John Jeter acquired 50 acres and the house in 1845 and kept them until 1869 when he sold the property to Thomas J. Horner, Jr.
Jetersville Va in Amelia County was named for "Black Jack Jeter" (John Jeter) who was a son of Rodophil Jeter.
Tilmon Jeter, near Amelia Springs, advertised for boarders in 1816. His home was called "Hill Grove".
Jane Jeter, a daughter of Rodophil Jeter 3 July 1790 - 26 Nov 1854, married Benjamin Allen Jr (3 Oct 1777 - 22 April 1859) in Amelia County VA on 8 December 1809. Rev. Conrad Speece married them. Benjamin was the son of Benjamin Allen Sr. (10 Sept. 1748 -1808) and Elizabeth Austin (18 April 1734). He was a descendant of James Allen of Scotland and Virginia.
Benjamin Jr. served in the War of 1812. Jane and Benjamin lived and were buried at "Allendale." They were the great-grandparents of Jane Hobson Allen who married Baker Burton Walker.
Elizabeth Jeter, (a daughter of Rodophil Jeter) married James Allen on 17 March 1806 in Amelia County VA.
Amelia County, Va. to wit:
We, Rodophil Jeter and Dabney Miller justices of the peace in the county aforesaid in the State of Virginia do hereby certify that Kittury Wright a party to a certain deed bearing date on the 2nd of July eighteen hundred and twenty seven and hereunto annexed personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be her act and deed and desired us to certify the said acknowledgment to the clerk of the county court of Amelia, in order that the said deed may be recorded. Given under our hands and seals this second day of July eighteen hundred and twenty seven.
